Secure CalcVault
Deceptive calculator app acting as a secure media vault. Password protected hidden storage for notes and files.
Privacy is a growing concern for individuals who need to store sensitive information — personal notes, confidential credentials, or private media — on shared devices. Conventional secure apps are immediately identifiable as security tools, making them a target. The challenge was to engineer a digital vault with a zero-footprint security model: one that appears completely innocuous to any casual observer.
Designed a fully functional, feature-complete calculator as the primary interface, indistinguishable from a native app. A hidden password sequence, entered via specific button combinations, decrypts and reveals the secure vault. All sensitive data is encrypted and stored using browser Local Storage, with no server-side footprint. The dual-layer UI architecture ensures that without knowing the exact unlock sequence, the hidden layer is completely inaccessible.
The CalcVault demonstrates security through obscurity as a valid layer in a multi-layered security model. This project proved proficiency in building deceptive UX patterns, client-side encryption workflows, and state-machine-driven interfaces. It directly influenced the approach to building role-based access control (RBAC) panels in enterprise SaaS applications, where the UI itself must enforce access tiers.
