Retro Pong Arcade
A high-performance recreation of the classic arcade game built on the HTML5 Canvas API. Features custom collision detection physics, an optimized game loop, and zero-dependency architecture for maximum efficiency.
Modern web developers frequently dismiss browser-native capabilities, defaulting to bloated frameworks for even the simplest interactive experiences. The challenge was to prove that a high-performance, visually engaging arcade game could be built entirely with zero dependencies — using only HTML5 Canvas and vanilla JavaScript — while delivering silky-smooth 60fps gameplay with custom physics.
Architected as a true single-file application, the game engine was built from scratch on the HTML5 Canvas API. Implemented a custom collision detection system with angle-based ball deflection physics, an adaptive AI opponent with configurable difficulty, and a real-time scoring system. The entire render loop was optimized using requestAnimationFrame for consistent, GPU-accelerated 60fps performance across all modern browsers — no build tools, no frameworks, no dependencies.
This project demonstrates the power of constraint-driven engineering. By eliminating all external dependencies, the final artifact was a sub-50KB, zero-latency gaming experience that loads instantly on any device. It validated a core architectural principle: the best tool is often the platform itself. This approach is directly applicable to building embedded interactive components in enterprise dashboards and client microsites where load performance is a critical KPI.
