Pro Habit Tracker
A persistent productivity tool designed to build consistency. Features dynamic habit management, daily streak calculation, and local data storage for privacy.
Behavioral science shows that habit formation requires consistent tracking, immediate positive reinforcement, and a clear view of long-term progress. Most habit tracking apps are either buried in complex mobile ecosystems or lack the psychological engagement features that make tracking sticky. The challenge was to engineer a pure web habit tracker with the behavioral reinforcement mechanics of premium apps — streaks, milestones, and progress visualization — without requiring any account creation or server infrastructure.
Designed a habit management engine with a full lifecycle: habit creation with custom frequency settings (daily, weekly, specific days), one-tap completion logging, and an automatic streak calculation algorithm that resets on missed days. The visual progress system uses animated progress rings (built with SVG) and a GitHub-style contribution calendar heatmap to visualize consistency over time. The data persistence layer was architected as a versioned Local Storage schema, designed for backward compatibility with future server sync capabilities.
Pro Habit Tracker demonstrated the power of behavioral design patterns in software. The streak mechanic alone — a deceptively simple feature — drove user retention in testing by creating a "loss aversion" psychological trigger. This understanding of the intersection of software engineering and behavioral psychology became a core skill applied to user retention feature design in SaaS products, directly influencing churn reduction strategies for startup clients.
