Building a dynamic, content-rich streaming interface that rivals the responsiveness of a native application is one of the hardest challenges in web engineering. Netflix's UI involves complex async data fetching, multi-row infinite carousels, hover-triggered media previews, and pixel-perfect visual design — all of which must perform flawlessly across all devices. The challenge was to reverse-engineer and rebuild this entire system using only a public API and vanilla JavaScript.

Integrated with The Movie Database (TMDB) API to drive a fully dynamic content catalog — movies, TV shows, trending, and genre-filtered sections — all fetched asynchronously and rendered without page refreshes. Built multi-row infinite scrolling carousel components from scratch using custom scroll physics and touch-event handling for mobile swipe support. Implemented a hover-triggered trailer autoplay system using the YouTube iFrame API, with a graceful fallback for movies without trailers. The visual design system replicates Netflix's exact color language, typography, and spacing.

This project mastered the art of building data-driven, component-based UIs without a framework. The TMDB API integration — handling pagination, request throttling, and error states gracefully — produced a reusable async data fetching pattern that became the foundation for all subsequent API-driven client applications. The carousel component, engineered for both mouse and touch, validated that framework-free solutions can match the UX quality of React-based alternatives while delivering significantly better first-load performance.
