The Challenge
Personal finance tools are either too simple (basic spreadsheets) or too complex (full accounting software) for the everyday user. The gap is a smart, visual personal finance dashboard that provides genuine insight — not just a list of transactions, but patterns, trends, and actionable data — while keeping all financial data completely private and local to the user's device.
Built a full-featured personal finance dashboard integrating Chart.js for interactive data visualization — including spending category donut charts, monthly trend line graphs, and budget vs. actual bar charts. The multi-currency support engine handles real-time currency symbol formatting for 50+ international currencies. A comprehensive dark/light mode system was implemented using CSS custom properties (variables) for instant, flash-free theme switching. All data lives exclusively in Local Storage, guaranteeing absolute privacy.
Expense Tracker Pro demonstrated that sophisticated data visualization doesn't require a backend. The Local Storage architecture, combined with a well-designed data schema, proved capable of handling thousands of transactions with zero perceptible latency.
