DocuChat | AI PDF Analyzer
A responsive, client-side web application that allows users to upload PDF documents and extract text locally using PDF.js. It integrates with the Gemini 2.5 Flash API to provide an interactive, AI-powered chat interface where users can ask questions about the uploaded document's contents. Features include a modern glassmorphism design, a mobile-friendly slide-out sidebar, chat history export, and full Markdown rendering for AI responses.
Knowledge workers spend an average of 2.5 hours per day searching for information within documents — a massive productivity drain with a clear technological solution. The challenge was to build a natural-language interface for PDF documents that allows users to upload any document and have a genuine, contextually aware conversation with its content, extracting precise answers instantly. Critically, the solution had to be privacy-first: no document content should ever touch an external server.
Architecture & Execution
Engineered a client-side RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipeline using PDF.js for local in-browser PDF text extraction, eliminating the need to upload sensitive documents to any server. Extracted text is chunked and indexed in memory, and user queries are processed client-side to retrieve the most semantically relevant chunks. These chunks are then injected as context into prompts sent to the Gemini 2.5 Flash API, which generates accurate, citation-aware natural language answers. The chat interface, rendered with Marked.js, supports rich Markdown formatting for structured document summaries.
DocuChat demonstrates the practical power of the RAG architecture for building enterprise-grade AI document analysis tools. The privacy-first design — where the document never leaves the client browser and only semantic chunks are sent to the AI API — is a critical architectural differentiator for enterprise clients in legal, healthcare, and finance sectors. This same architecture forms the foundation for enterprise AI assistants being developed for corporate knowledge bases, legal contract review systems, and regulatory compliance document analysis tools serving Fortune 500 clients.
